Starting your stitching

So you're kit has arrived and you're ready to start stitching - how exciting!

To start with let's go through a couple of terms. When I say floss I am referring to the full 6 strands of thread. These usually need separating into 2-4 strands. Pull them apart very slowly and gently, untwisting it slightly along the way and it should separate easily.

But first, if the strands of thread you need to use are an even number (which I usually make sure they are), measure the floss the full length of your arm and separate half the number of threads you need. So if the instructions say use 2, just seperate one. Then fold it in half and there should be a loop at the end. Thread your needle the opposite end so the loop is "free".

Now start stitching! Come up through the back of your fabric where you want to start but don't pull your thread all the way through; leave the loop sticking out at the back. Make your first stitch and when you come back down through to the back of your fabric put your needle through the loop and pull gently. This should secure your thread so it doesn't come undone.

Or if you prefer you can simply knot the end of your thread (you will need to do a few knots), thread your needle the opposite end and start stitching.

And you're ready to go! I will be uploading some video tutorials soon, but in the mean time please do not hesitate to get in touch via email or facebook.
